Last Saturday there was Winter Season Opening in Gudauri. For me, as for a person who had never tried any winter activities except sledges, snowball battle and snowman construction, it was a good opportunity to start.
Georgian National Tourism Administration organized several free shuttles to Gudauri from Tbilisi and Kutaisi, but normally you can take a minibus for about 10 lari, $5.5 / person).
So, me and two patient friends of mine went to ski rental, took shoes and ski for half a day (15 lari, $8; the whole day 30 lari, $17), and went to ski lift (5 lari one slope up; 30 lari for the whole day pass). Tip: if you rent your equipment not next to the first ski lift, but a bit down, e.g. near Smart supermarket, it can be cheaper, like 20 lari or so.
I called them patient, because they manage to deal with me 2 hours long, be on my side as I was falling, and so on, and so on 🙂
Not all the hotels in Gudauri were opened, but most of them already wait for the guests to come! You can find more details about prices on gudauri.travel, and even on booking.com.
We were staying for 1 day only, and it was pretty fun! Besides sportive activities, there were also opportunities to take part in paintball and some other funny battles, to taste drinks based on Georgian wine and chacha, and dance to electronic music made by Georgian DJs.
And have a snow bath!
Well, I really enjoyed it, and I think, I’ll go to Gudauri again, as the season should last till late March. But now, Mestia season opening is waiting! Soon you will be spammed with pictures from highest Georgian mountain resort, hehehe.
